2026 Goldline OVCA U12 Championships Zone 1 Qualifier

This event is a points bonspiel with points being awarded for wins and ties, for ends won, as well as for points scored. After their first game, the teams will participate in a draw-to-the-button skill drill that may be required in the event of a tiebreaker.

The two teams with the most points at the end of the event will proceed to the Championship.

The 5-rock free guard zone rule will be followed.

There will be no practice sessions for this event, but players may do up to two slides each when they get on the ice to get stretched out. Teams will decide on hammer and rock colour before going out on the ice and will communicate this information to the event coordinator.

Coaching from behind the glass is not permitted by any coach or parent; we want the young curlers to call their own games.

There are no timeouts at this level of the event.

Head protection is required for all youth. Any of the various Goldline head protection products or a helmet will be accepted. Waivers will not be accepted

Upon completion of their games, players are expected to join their teammates and the opposition team at their assigned table for snacks, lunch and social time.

To all players, coaches and parents, please keep in mind that the main goal of all Little Rock bonspiels is to have fun while curling and to make some new friends along the way.

The event coordinator reserves the right to alter the event, at their sole discretion, to ensure smooth play on the day of the event.

The event coordinator shall have the FINAL say on all matters pertaining to the day of the event

Zone Scoring Rules

Points

The points for games will be awarded as follows: 20 points for a win 10 points per team for a tie 2 point for an end won 1 point per team for a blank end 1 point per game point scored to a maximum of 3 points per end and 10 points per game.

The maximum number of points a team can be awarded for winning a game, therefore, is 38.

Draw to the Button

At the end of their first game, all teams will throw four rocks drawing to the button (each player must throw one stone) with sweepers to establish a team point total for potential tiebreaker criteria. Teams will alternate shots, rocks will be removed from the ice after each shot, and the points for each rock will be recorded. The total of all four rocks will be recorded for that team in the event it is required as a tiebreaker for determining a team's final standing or ranking during the bonspiel. Draw to the button points will be awarded as follows: - Out of the house behind the t-line, but not over the back line - ½ point - Guards - ½ point - In or biting the 12 foot – 1 point - In or biting the 8 foot – 2 points - In or biting the 4 foot – 3 points - On or biting the button, but not covering the pin – 4 points - Covering the pinhole – 5 points

Ranking

The overall standing for the event will be based on total points accumulated. The team with the highest point total will be ranked #1 through #16 after the first and second draws. Teams that are tied for points will use the following to determine their rank:

  1. Head to Head record
  2. Total bonspiel points scored in game(s) plus draw to the button competition
  3. Ends won vs. ends lost
  4. Total Game scores for vs. Total Game Scores against (i.e. not using the bonspiel points system, but actual Game scores)
  5. Coin toss

For the single draw schedule, draw 2 teams cannot play a team they have already played. For the double draw schedule, draw 2 and draw 3 teams cannot play a team they have already played. If this occurs, the higher-ranked team will play the next higher-ranked available team.

Here is an example of what this means based on the 3rd draw match-ups. If the 1st place team has already played the 6th ranked team, they would then play the 5th ranked team, and the 2nd ranked team would get the 6th ranked team as their opposition.
